POWER OVER ETHERNET

PoE power budget calculator

Add the maximum draw of cameras, wireless APs, intercoms and other devices, then check both switch power and ports.

Minimum PoE type per device

Input rule: Use maximum draw or maximum PoE input from the data sheet, not an observed average. Cable length, temperature and PSE implementation change real margins.

Formula

Device load W = Σ(quantity × maximum W each)
Recommended budget = device load W ÷ (1 − headroom)

Device types are conservatively compared with power available at the powered device (PD). Advertised PSE output is higher because of cable loss.
